Take Griffin Road west to it's very very end in the everglades. Training/advancement event. Scouts assemble in Holiday Park parking lot at 6:15am. We step off at 6:30am to hike along the dyke trail for 2.5 miles. Along the trail we'll practice using a map and compass. At the midway point, we will set up a shade shelter, then practice ways to make fire, and purify water, and also practice setting up our backpacking stoves. Scouts should start off with at least a 32oz. full water bottle. A 2nd bottle could be brought to use for water purification. Recommend sun block and mosquito protection. Bring a personal first aid kit to meet advancement requirements and also to be prepared.

Remember to be on time, as we will absolutely step off at 6:30am, with or without you. Uniform if short sleeve shirt can be class B.

Bring light snack(s) for trail energy.

Expect a very humid and warm morning. Total hike distance will be 5 miles.
